Assignment Sheets

One of the goals of fourth grade is to have the students develop the responsibility they need to be successful in middle school.  That is the reasons why we assign homework and use assignment sheets.  Students should have an assignment sheet each week that they fill out daily.  Teachers will list the day’s assignments on the board and go over them.  Students are to write down the assignments and plan what they need to take home each night.  We ask that parents sign the assignment sheets each day so that they have an idea of the work that we are doing in class and assignments that their child may need to finish.  Most of the time students are given time to work on assignments in class.  If they don’t complete them, then they go to home to be completed.

Homework

I believe that homework is an integral part of the learning process.  Daily homework will be sent home on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The daily homework is due at the beginning of the next day.  They may also have work to do on a long term project. The homework should not take more than 60 minutes to do at the fourth grade level.

It will help your child if you can set up an area for them to study.  This may be in their room or at the kitchen table.  A supply of learning materials should be available including pencils and paper.  I would also recommend a dictionary.

Each person learns differently.  I concentrate best with instrumental music in the background.  My brother needs dead silence.  I like medium light.  He likes bright lights.  Your child may work better in short bursts of time.  Allow them to work for 30 minutes and then go play for 30 minutes.  I do best when  I can work for longer stretches of time.  See what works best for your child!
