Math
The Hallsville R-IV Elementary School uses the Everyday Math Series. In second grade the children cover ten units that include: Numbers and Routines, Addition and Subtraction Facts, Place Value, Money, and Time, Addition and Subtraction, 3-D and 2-D Shapes, Whole Number Operations and Number Stories, Patterns and Rules, Fractions, Measurement, and Decimals and Place Value. At the beginning of each unit a family newsletter will be sent home. This newsletter introduces new vocabulary and skills the students will be learning. Another critical component of the math series are “homelinks” which are sent home with the students as homework. These assignments provide extra practice for the students and also help parents become more familiar with the activities their children are participating in during the school day.
