Hallsville High School - Career Center

Welding and Small Engines

  • 9030 Introductory Small Gas Engines (Grade: 10-12; Credit: 1/2)

This is a semester course designed for students interested in developing the basic skills necessary for the maintenance and troubleshooting of small engines. Areas of study will be primarily limited to 4-cycle Briggs and Stratton engines. FFA participation will be encouraged.

Follow Up Courses: Introductory Welding, Automotive Technology, Electronics Essentials, Electronics 1

  • 9031 Small Engine Technology (Grade: 10-12; Credit: 1)

This year-long course is designed for students who are interested in engines and mechanics. Areas of study will primarily focus on 4-cycle Briggs and Stratton engines with some exploration of 2-cycle engines. FFA participation will be encouraged.

Prerequisite: None to enter: must pass qualifying exam to cont nue second semester.

Follow Up Courses: Automotive Technology 1, Electronic Essentials, Electronics 1

  • 9040 Introductory Welding (Grade: 10-12; Credit: ')

This semester course is designed for students interested in developing basic shop skills in welding. Topic areas included are: arc welding, MIG welding and oxy-acetylene welding and cutting. FFA participation will be encouraged.

Follow Up Courses: Advanced Welding, Introductory Small Gas Engines, Automotive Technology

  • 9041 Welding Technology (Grade: 10-12; Credit: 1)

This year-long course is designed for students interested in developing skills needed in the world of work. Welding skills learned include shop safety, use of metal-working tools, reading and developing project plans, arc welding, MIG welding, oxy-acetylene welding and cutting. FFA participation will be encouraged. This course meets the prerequisite for Advanced Welding.

Follow Up Courses: Advanced Welding, Automotive Technology

  • 9042 Advanced Welding and Project Fabrication 1 (Grade: 11.12; Credit: 3)

Advanced training will be given in welding and metal-working processes. Units of study include auto sketch, advanced welding techniques in MIG, TIG, flux core; project planning, drawing and construction. A majority of time will be spent in the shop constructing projects. FFA participation will be strongly encouraged.

Articulated College Credit Available

Prerequisite: B or better both semesters in Welding Technology/ Introductory Welding, 80% attainment of Essential Skills and Instructor approval along with a performance assessment.
