Students explore health care and careers in the diagnostic, therapeutic and general service areas of medicine. Guest speakers, reality-based instruction, first aid training and exposure to CPR methods are integrated into this introductory course.

- 9231 Health Careers - Honors Program (Grade: 11-12; Credit: 1)
This Honors class uses a problem-based methodology as used by many medical training facilities. The student will be required to do research and will investigate health care careers. Specific units will include, medical terminology, history of medicine, microbiology, human growth and development, medical assessment, and first aid and safety.
Prerequisite: 3.0 and a recommendation from a Science teacher. (Recommendation forms can be found in your Guidance Center)

- 9235 Health Related Professions (Grade: 11-12; Credit: 3)
Students receive instruction in patient care skills and work off-campus in individualized clinical rotations. Units of study include anatomy, patient care skills, disease process, ethics, communication skills, CPR and nurse assistant certification with the required hours of direct patient care for eligibility to take the CNA licensing exam. Successful completion of this course will enhance opportunities for admission to advanced health care career programs.
Prerequisite: Employee Disqualification List (EDL) check, Federal Marker check, State Criminal Background check, and a drug test. Must successfully past first semester to continue into second semester clinicals.
