Hallsville Special Olympics currently competes with other Missouri teams in two sports: bowling in the fall, and track/field in the spring. We are also trying to add basketball for the wintertime, though we will not be able to compete this year. We currently have nine students participating in Special Olympics: one in Elementary, three in Middle school, and five in High School. With this program we are trying to give student athletes, who may not normally have the opportunity, a chance to learn about practice, hard work, participation, sportsmanship, fellowship, and the thrill of competition. Sponsor John Williams says, "Although it’s fun to win a gold medal, we know it’s not worth much unless you understand what it took to earn it. In a nutshell, our Special Olympics program here at Hallsville is about opportunity and having fun."
