Softball Updates from Coach Blakemore
- Wednesday, September 12: The MS softball season began last week after three weeks of preseason practice. This season we are playing an 8th grade game followed by a 7th grade contest. The girls are working hard each day at practice and you can see that in our play during each game.
Game results:
8th grade:
@ S. Boone 12-1 win.
vs. Moberly 2-0 win.
@ Moberly 10-5 loss.
7th grade:
@ S. Boone 13-5 loss.
vs. Moberly 15-7 loss.
@ Moberly 12-11 win.
Our next game is Thursday at South Callaway.
- Friday, September 14: We toured the lovely rolling hills of southern Cal....laway county last night for a doubleheader. We won the 8th grade game(10innings)6-2 and dropped the 7th grade game 12-8. The first game was probably the best MS game I've seen in the two seasons I've been coaching it. We found a way to beat a very good pitcher!
Highlights:
1. Morgan George led off the 1st game with a homerun.
2. Kaley Graves and Alex Elkin were very good pitching and catching respectively.
3. Kendell Rock drove in the winning run in the top of the tenth inning.
4. The 7th graders are getting more aggressive both hitting and fielding with each passing game.
The 7th grade group plays two games on Saturday morning in the S. Callaway tournament. Both groups play next Tuesday at Centralia.
Thanks,
Coach Blakemore - Sept. 19
9/15 S. Callaway 7th grade tournamentGm 1 we lost to S. Boone 14-8.
Gm 2 we lost to S. Callaway 18-3.9/18 @ Centralia
8th grade game: we won 7-6.
We found ourselves trailing 6-2 after 3 innings. We rallied with 5 runs in the last two innings to steal a victory. Kaley Graves picked up the win with two scoreless innings in relief. Malee Crouch, Kendell Rock, Brooke Mullings, and Lauren Little had two hits each. Alex Elkin had a big hit in the top of the sixth inning to drive in the tying and winning runs.7th grade game: we lost 13-1.
We are still trying to be more consistent with our pitching and catching. Offensively we have several girls making improvements with aggressive swings and putting the ball in play. Our last inning we had our first defensive 1-2-3 inning. Both teams play @home on Thursday vs. So. Boone (5pm).
Hope to see you there,
Coach Blakemore - Sept. 21
Last night we played host to So. Boone.8th grade won 15-3 to improve their record to 5-1. We had a slow start but put together a couple of big innings for the win.
7th grade played their best game of the season only to come up short late in the contest, losing by the final of 12-5. We had the score tied at 5 all after three innings. We showed a lot of progress with our pitching and defense. Our next game is at home on Tuesday vs. S. Callaway.
Hope to see you there!
Coach Blakemore - October 1
We wrapped up our second season of middle school softball on a high note this weekend. The 8th grade group won the North Callaway tournament on Saturday morning. We beat N. Callaway in game one by a score of 8-2, with Alex Elkin pitching a great game. The Championship game against S. Callaway was a run-rule game as our bats came alive for a 14-2 win. Kaley graves picked up the win. This season has been really enjoyable. The 8th grade group was very strong all season long and finished with a record of 8-1. We were led by the pitching duo of Alex Elkin and Kaley Graves, both girls were really strong for us and kept us in every game. Offensively we had help up and down the line-up every one seemed to get at least one key hit during the season.
The 7th grade group did nothing but get better each game. Their 1-8 record isn't a true reflection of how well they played late in the season as compared to early season games. Their biggest area of improvement was hitting. This group started out very passive and struggled to make consistent contact. By the end of the season most every girl was more aggressive and putting the bat on the ball.
Thanks again for all of you that came out and watched our games.
Coach Blakemore
