Computer Usage Policy

Hallsville District

The Internet is becoming an important tool in education. As we develop school web sites, it is necessary to establish policies which protect the privacy and clarify the rights of students and parents. Here are some of my current classroom policies.

Pictures of Students on the Web

  1. Students must have a District Permission to Photograph document on file before their picture can be used on the Web.
  2. Pictures of students will be for educational, informational purposes showing group activities or special projects.
  3. Pictures of students will not be posted with matching student names.
  4. When student names are used in text passages on the Web, only first names will be used.
Student Work on the Web
  1. Student work including drawing, writing, and voice recordings may be showcased on classroom web pages.
  2. Students with the guidance of the teacher will select work to be posted.
  3. Student work may be labeled with the student's first name, age and classroom.
Appropriate Computer Use
  1. Classroom computers are to be used for learning purposes only. They are not toys for entertainment.
  2. Computer usage is a privilege, not a right. Inappropriate use can lead to loss of the privilege.
  3. Students must be supervised at all times when using the school's computers.
  4. Researching school-related topics is the only appropriate use for the Web.
  5. Open surfing and unsupervised searching on the Internet are strictly prohibited.
  6. Never type in a url.  Approved sites will always be linked.
  7. Respect other people's files on the computer. Do not change, copy, delete, read or otherwise access files that are not yours.
  8. When using the Internet, stay on recommended sites. If in doubt, ask before clicking. Get help from the teacher immediately if you get on the wrong site.
