We are going to be working on geography skills during the next week or so. We have introduced a Geography Exit Test this year - all students will receive a 100% by the end of the year. They have as many opportunities to take the test as they need. I am giving it a couple of times during class and then they can take it before or after school or during advisory time. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Well it’s good to be back in the swing of things, and it almost seems like spring with the temperatures and a forecast of thunderstorms. Speaking of thunderstorms we have begun a unit on Electricity. We will be studying Electricity for most of this week and possible part of next before moving on to magnetism. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
I can't believe we are halfway through the school year. Time has certainly flown for me. Warmups/class starters for the next few months will include released items from previous years' MAP tests. This month we will be covering concepts on similar polygons and comparing the ratios of the sides, perimeters and area; the coordinate plane system and how it relates to math and map reading; and symmetry and transformations of polygons. Continue to review my website for daily homework assignments.
My tutoring hours are now every morning from 7:30 until 8:00. Those students assigned to my advisory work on math only. If you would like your child to be in that advisory class, please let me know.
There is homework help on the web at www.classzone.com
In Reading, we have started a fantastic adventure. We are reading My Side of the Mountain ; a coming of age survival story. We will be reading a chapter a day with vocabulary and questions. Wednesday is still silent reading, Thursdays is set aside for quizzes and tests and Fridays are library and craft day. So far the students are really enjoying the book. Be prepared to be building/making some outdoor survival gear at home. My Advisory: Don't forget to bring in your box tops! Have a Great Week!

Communication Arts: Last week, we read The Giving Tree and discussed. We followed this up with writing a friendly letter to our best friend. This week, we will watch, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech. We will spend the remaining days, before his holiday, writing our own speech and presenting them to the class.
Study Skills : We continue to write in our journals everyday. We also split the period between discussing good social/study skill and completing homework. This quarter we are focusing on reviewing our multiplication facts and learning how to handle our anger.
