We are returning to American History after our brief Geography Unit. I handed out a new list of vocabulary words. We worked with them today and the kids are making flash cards. The title of our unit is Confederation to Constitution. Those students who have not received a 100% on the Geography Exit Test have until the end of the year to retake the test as many times as needed to get 100%. Students may come in during advisory or before/after school. If you have any questions, feel free to email me!
There will be a test on Thursday the 22 nd! This test will be over the chapter on electricity. Please take some time to study with your student prior to the test. They should use the chapter review, notes worksheet, and class notes to prepare for this exam. Good luck and happy studying!
We are finishing up chapter 10 with a TEST ON Friday. Please review with your child both Wednesday and Thursday nights .
This week we are working on writing "How To" Speeches. We will also start literature circles. This will be the third book that we read for the quarter. It will be more independent reading than the students have been used to in the past few quarters, but I will also give them more time in class to read. Please let me know if you have any questions.
This week in Reading we are covering Chapters 11,12 and 13 in My Side of the Mountain . The students will be completing their vocabulary and questions. We are also playing a fun game: pictionary, act it out, mold it out and trivia questions all based on the novel, this Thursday. Friday is Craft day. Have a great week. We are off on a new semester and working hard on several projects. In reading we are choosing new literature sets to read as a class, as well as going to the library to pick out books at our level to read for book reports. The students are also reviewing and working on skills in the Wilson’s Reading System. In English, we are continuing to work on spelling and vocabulary packets; DOL’s and have tests on Fridays. Students are writing friendly letters and working the writing process.
Due dates for book reports for this quarter are: 1 st one is due February 6, 2 nd one is due March 5. If the first one is not turned in by February 6, the student can still turn it in for credit but it will be for 50% credit after the due date. The requirements for the book reports are: books at their level or approved by me; do a book report from the list - they cannot repeat a report style or book they have already used; and they cannot use the book we are reading in class as one of the readings.
If you have questions, please contact me. My room is #23 and my extension is #438.
Comm Arts: Students are writing speeches about their future goals and dreams. Students will be graded on content and composure. Final drafts of speeches are due Friday. By this time, students should also have an "outside" reading book on or below their lexile for a book project.
Study Skills : We continue to write in our journals everyday. We also split the period between discussing good social/study skill and completing homework. This quarter we are focusing on reviewing our multiplication facts and learning how to handle our anger.
