We are working on concepts leading up to the Civil War . At the end of the week the students will be starting a new project, based on the Civil War. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks! Mrs. Sides and Mrs. Hutton
We are getting back to our regular routine this week after a great week of testing. The students are picking up right where they left of with the weather unit. We should be taking a unit test within the next week, so be ready for some study action. As always, please let me know if you have a questions or concerns. Coach Hague
During the next three weeks, we will cover Chapter 6, Integers. Tuesday's homework assignment is to make a paper airplane. Decorations are optional. On Wednesday, after throwing and the paper airplanes, we will find the measures of central tendency. Thursday, we will graph the data on a number line. Beginning on Friday, we will cover the basic operations (+ - * /) integers. Pi Day Players: If your child is a Pi Day Player (an actor in the play) the lines need to be memorized by Monday May 5th. Thanks for your help.
This week we are starting the book A River Between Us by Richard Peck. It is a historical fiction novel based around the Civil War . The students started with research on some topics of the book and we will begin reading it today. This will last through the second to last week of school. We will read the book in class each day. There will be quizzes given through out and questions to answer from each chapter. We will be doing literature circles through out the book. The students are in groups of four and they will be responsible for their assignment to be completed before the meeting with the group. Class time will be given for research before each meeting. The test will be given May 15th over the novel. Reminder that novel posters are due Wednesday, May 21st for 100 points. The students can begin working on them anytime, but they will be given two in class days to work on them at the end of the year. They should all have the requirements. Please let me know if you have any questions.
This week we are starting our Civil War play. The unit is worth 220pts. We have also started a read aloud book entitled Rash by Pete Hautman. Ask your child what independent book they are reading. Have a Great Week! Mrs. P.
Special Services Mrs. Fadler Ext 438 pfadler@hallsville.org
We are continuing to work and practice skills in the Wilson’s Reading System. We are also reading short stories in literature groups. In English, we will be starting poetry as well as working on grammar skills.
Everyone turned in their first book report that was due last week! The second book report will be due on Wednesday, May 21. No late book reports will be accepted as the quarter ends on Friday, May 23. Students need to select a book at their level to read independently for this report. This is a project worth 100 points and should be turned in as their best work, with at least one or two editing processes before it is turned in. The requirements for the book reports are: books at their level or approved by me; do a book report from the list - they cannot repeat a report style or book they have already used; and they cannot use the book we are reading in class as one of the readings. If you have questions, please contact me. My room is #23 and my extension is #438.
Comm. Arts : Comm Arts: Students will be reading The Freedom Writer's Diary. We will use Reader's Workshop to question, predict, and respond to our reading. Reacher's Workshop asks students to really become active readers and strengthens our writing as well. This activity should help us complete the year.
Study Skills: 7th Grade Students are beginning to read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. We will spend about ½ the period on homework and the other ½ on the book. This book is a great way to learn positive habits while improving reading skills. Ask you child about it!
Coach Pemberton's class will continue their flag football unit. Coach King's class will continue their softball unit. Thanks
Math-- We are working on our multiplication facts and money skills. We will also be doing many projects over the next few weeks to end the year! Your kids have been wonderful! We have covered so much ground and learned so many things together! If you get a chance, help them work on their math facts! ;)
Ac Lab-- We are continuing to work on filling out our planners, completing work ON TIME and to the best of our abilities, and being responsible for our actions and choices.
