We are off to a GREAT start this year! We just started our Explorers Unit and the students will have a vocabulary quiz tomorrow over there 12 words. The Explorers we will be discussing in the next couple of weeks are the Vikings, Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan and Henry Hudson. If any student would like to stay after-school to work on homework or to get some extra help, I will be here on Thursdays until 4:30. Please contact me if you have any questions! This week we are going to be taking a look at breathing and the human respiratory system. Our advisory classes are collecting box tops, so be sure and save them, so that we are able to raise some money. All classes are going well and all students seem eager to participate. Have a wonderful holiday weekend and remember to breathe.

This week we are working with the basic operations of whole numbers and problem solving. With a 4 day week this week and next, we will not have our next homework quiz until Friday, September 7. Homework assignments are listed on the school website, using my webpage, by hour. Starting Tuesday, we begin assignments based on class hour.

This week we are working on a graphic organizers, cause and effect, plot, and conflict with the short story, "Thank You, M'am". Vocabulary was passed out on Monday and will be due next Friday, September 7th for Mrs. Deneke's class and Thursday, Sept 6th for Mrs. Hicks's class. The vocabulary test over chapter one will also be next Friday. Thursday will be reading day and the first book is due September 13th for 50 points. A reading counts test must be passed before the end of the day on the 13th for the 50 points. If you have any questions, please call or email.

We had our first Vocabulary Quiz and the kids did well. They received their new words Monday and vocabulary tests are always Thursday. We are currently on Chapter 5 of Charlotte's Web and working on drawing the setting. I will be sending home reports on your child’s' current Lexile Reading Level in the upcoming weeks, be on the look-out for that. Fridays are Purple and Gold days; show school spirit and dress with school colors.

In reading, we have completed the Wilson’s assessment and are reviewing steps 2 and 3 this week. In English, spelling and vocabulary packets 2 are due Thursday, and we will also have the quiz over the words on Thursday.

We are continuing to work on our reading skills. We are learning about nouns in English class. We are learning about plant life and will finish this lesson this week. We are finishing our review on math topics, before learning new material. We are learning about neighborhoods from long ago in history class. Academic Lab is working on organizing and any homework they have.

Math:

The students are working on place value as it relates to the pre-algebra concepts. We are also working on expanded and standard form of numbers. The students need to be working on multiplication. We will be having a weekly quiz over multiplication as well as the concepts that are worked on for that week.

 

Academic Lab:

Students should be filling planners out. They will be working on homework and/or reading. If they do not have anything to work on, they will be given a study packet to work on.

7th grade PE will be starting our softball unit. We will cover throwing, catching, fielding, and hitting. The students will have a written test over rules at the end of our softball unit.

The Media Center will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30. Please remember that students need their school IDs to check out materials. If you did not receive an ID please notify your Advisory Teacher so they can send in a request for a temporary ID.

 

There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, August 31 because of Administration/Teacher Workshop and Monday, September 3 because of the Labor Day Holiday. Enjoy your long weekend!
