This week we started reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. This will take us through the next three weeks in class. Vocabulary packets will not be handed out during this unit; we will do vocabulary from the book through out the unit. The students will have reading to do almost every night from the book. Reminder that book #2 for the students is due October 11th for 50 points.
Reading Mrs. Pemberton Ext 487 JPembert@hallsvill.org
Thank you to all the parents and students who brought in food for our "good behavior party" last Friday. The kids had a blast! We are on the downhill run on our book Charlotte's Web. We will be completing the book next week, taking our test and watching the enchanting movie. Have a Great Week!
In reading, we have started our literature sets and are reading Island in 1 st hour, Frindle in 3 rd hour and Bud, Not Buddy in 6 th hour. We are also working in the Wilson’s Reading System step 2 and 3. We are continuing with Vocabulary and Spelling packets in English, with the packets due on Friday as well as the test on Friday too.
We go to the library every other week and your child has 2 book reports due by October 11 th. They have several options and cannot use the books we read together in class. Encourage your child to read and get their reports done.
If you have questions, please contact me. My room is #23 and my extension is #438.
Life Skills/Academic Lab Mrs. LaRoe Ext 439 mlaroe@hallsville.org
In math, we are all working at our ability level either on number recognition, multiplication, subtraction, and addition. We are going to stop working separately and spend time on money. In the English class, we are working on spelling, letter recognition, journal writing, and writing stories. We have worked on nouns and verbs. In reading, each child has a book (or a set) to read and different activities to go along with it. I encourage each child to read at night. If you need help finding something for them to read at home let me know. In science class, we just completed a unit on animal life. We are now starting a unit on healthy guidelines (eating and exercise). In job skills, we are starting to think of what to prepare for the upcoming holidays, such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and of course our teacher menu for Winter Holidays. The kids made nachos this week and are planning on making homemade pizzas Wednesday. Finally in History class, we are talking about community helpers still and will continue this topic for the next week.
In academic lab, we are still working on completing homework and organizing. I am going to start requiring that the planners be filled out daily for 25 points a week (5 core subjects=1 point a day for each class times 5 days).

Academic Lab:
In Academic Lab, your child should be using this time to get work completed from other classes, reading, or completing a packet that I have given them. They will be given points for doing this.
