We are going to continue studying the body systems, and this week we are working with the Muscular system which should carry us into next week. I will be gone this Friday and next Monday but we will finish up the muscular system when I return. If you have any questions or concerns always feel free to contact me my e-mail or phone. Have a great week and we will see you next Tuesday. Coach Hague
This week we begin Chapter 5, Fractions. Over the next 3-4 weeks we will be adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing them without calculators. From what the students have told me, this is all a review from last year. Speaking of calculators, the students have picked up my kleptomania tendencies. I am missing 8 calculators. We have checked lockers. If you could have them check their bedrooms, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your help.
The students turned in their 5 paragraph essay today. We do not have a vocabulary unit this week. We are starting a book today, A Corner of the Universe. We will be reading this for the next couple of weeks. Book #1 will be due November 15 th for 50 points and Book #2 will be due December 20 th for 50 points. Please let us know if you have any questions.
This week and next we are working on non-fiction reading. On Monday we read "45 Second Inside a Tornado." Today, we are taking the quiz over that story and grading our workbook from the reading.
*Please bring in some cardboard or tag/foam board for our 3D pop-up book report.
*Advisory Students--We got 3rd place in the box tops. Keep bringing them in...1st and 2nd place will get an ice-cream party each month. Have a Great Week! Mrs. Pemberton
In reading, we are beginning our new literature sets to read as a class. We will continue to work in the Wilson’s Reading System step 3. In English, this week we will have our vocabulary review. Next week we will continue on with our weekly Vocabulary and Spelling packets, with the packets due on Friday as well as the test on Friday too. Book reports for this quarter will be due on Wednesday, December 19th. Each student is required to read two books at their level or approved by me and do a book report from the list. They cannot repeat a report style or book they have already used and they cannot use the book we are reading in class as one of the readings. If you have questions, please contact me. My room is #23 and my extension is #438.
PRIDE Communication Arts: Students are continuing their work on Individual Units of Study. These units cover reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling.
All PE classes will be taking a Health Test tomorrow over the Components of Health Related Fitness. Every student should have a study guide to look over for the test.
Life Skills
English - Each student is working at their ability in spelling. We are continuing to journal. We are working on writing skills by getting thoughts on paper using appropriate grammar.
Reading - Each student is reading at their ability level. We are working with comprehension out of a workbook. We took SRI tests this week and will take this each quarter. Some had it read to them, while others read it themselves.
Math -Each student is working at their ability level in a workbook right now.
Science - We are studying Earth Science. We are talking about fossils, dinosaurs, and what Earth looked like long ago.
Social Studies - We just completed the test over rules and laws. We are going to start talking about our leaders and laws. One student is learning about the past of America.
Job Skills -We play social games, fill the soda machine, or talk about Life Skills.
Math: We have been working on the Pre-Algebra concepts of solving problems that involve order of operations. Students need to be working on multiplication facts.
Academic Lab: Your child should be using this time to get work completed from other classes, reading, or completing a packet that I have given them. Planners will be checked each day and teacher signature will be placed at bottom of that day’s column. They are receiving grades for filling them out. This can hurt their grade is they do not fill them out.

The school will buy everyone's lunch that day, so everyone will have the opportunity to eat. This is only as successful as you make it, so be sure to get your supplies in.
Student supplies are diminishing: pencils, pens, paper, etc. Please ask your child if they need to restock for 2nd quarter .
The Media Center will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30. Please remember that students need their school IDs to check out materials. If you did not receive an ID please notify your Advisory Teacher so they can send in a request for a temporary ID.

Remember that the Lost and Found is emptied every Friday. Be sure to check if you are missing something.
