Students took a Road to Revolution quiz today. We are starting our American Revolution unit tomorrow. Students will receive their new vocabulary words Tuesday. If you have any questions, please contact me!
Our 2nd Girls Night Out is tonight, beginning at 6 pm. We will meet in the HS/MS cafeteria and then go caroling throughout the community. We would love for you to join us! Please bring a flashlight (if you have one)!
Well, it is hard to believe that December is already here, so I guess that means we only have twenty days or so left for Christmas shopping. I am a little sad that we didn’t get to start this December off with a foot or more of snow like last year, oh well maybe in a week or two.
In Science we are studying the nervous and the endocrine systems at this time and we should be wrapping those up in the next few days. I am planning to have a test early next week. Have a great week and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
We jumped ahead to Chapter 10, Geometric Shapes and are covering angles, triangles, polygons, similar polygons, transformation and symmetry before the semester ends. Check my website for specific homework assignments .
This week we are working on MAP practice from A Christmas Carol. We will work on a play project this week. Vocab chapter 4 is due Friday, along with the test. Book #2 is due on December 20th for 50 points. Please let us know if you have any questions.
This week in Reading we are finishing up our non-fiction short stories and working on our Reading Concepts. The students made flashcards over 27 concepts: setting, plot, simile, personification, genre, etc. We are having our test over these concepts on Friday.
My Advisory: Don't forget to bring in your box tops! Have a Great Week! Mrs. Pemberton
In reading, we are working on reading skills and reviewing in Wilson’s Step 3.
In English, we are working on Vocabulary and Spelling packets, with the packets due on Friday as well as the test on Friday too. We are also reviewing parts of speech and synonyms/antonyms.
Book reports for this quarter will be due on Wednesday, December 19 th. Each student is required to read two books at their level or approved by me and do a book report from the list. They cannot repeat a report style or book they have already used and they cannot use the book we are reading in class as one of the readings.
If you have questions, please contact me. My room is #23 and my extension is #438.
Communication Arts: Students will work on their Unit Packets all week. They are due Friday.
Math:
We have been working on the Pre-Algebra concepts of solving problems that involve writing expressions and simplifying equations. We are working without manipulatives. We are using addition and subtraction of simple equations that have different variables. We will be starting the process of substituting numbers for the variables and solving the equations in the next week or so. There will be a quiz this Friday. Also, students need to be working on multiplication facts and start working on basic division facts and that process.
Academic Lab:
Your child should be using this time to get work completed from other classes, reading, or completing a packet that I have given them. Planners will be checked each day and teacher signature will be placed at bottom of that day’s column. They are receiving grades for filling them out. This can hurt their grade is they do not fill them out.
