Language ArtsWe started our spelling units. We are starting lesson 5 this week. The kids need to work on the packets, write the words ten times each, and use the words in a sentence (with correct capitalization and punctuation). We are working on writing to a prompt for the next few weeks. We are gearing up for MAP testing coming in April. Encourage your child to help you write lists or notes at home. MathWe are working on money still. Some of us are learning to count by 5’s, 10’s, and a mixed set of 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s. One group has been working on shapes, counting, and patterns. The third group is working on adding 3-digit and 2-digit numbers. Encourage your child to count loose change with you to help them learn the value of the coins. ScienceWe finished our unit on the Solar System. We are going to start a unit on Earth’s surfaces. The kids will learn about landforms, rocks, and oceans. Social StudiesWe finished a unit on the Four Directions (North, South, East, West). We are now going to talk about the Rocky Mountain Region. We are going to do a project where we research some of the National Parks in this region. We will prepare a trip agenda explaining what we learned about the area and sites. ReadingWe have been reading about tolerance. We are going to continue to read about this off and on for the next few weeks. We are also going to read a little book about St. Patrick’s Day and Spring. Read with your child. The ten best ways to improve a child’s reading is to: 1. Read, 2. Read, 3. Read, 4. Read, 5. Read, 6. Read, 7. Read, 8. Read, 9. Read, and finally 10. Read.
