Reading Contract  

This agreement is entered into on this day of ____________________, between Mrs. Spurling, referred to as the TEACHER,__________________________ referred to as the READER, and ,______________________ referred to as PARENT/GUARDIAN. The term BOOK refers to a novel 100 pages or greater at an appropriate reading level for the READER and an accompanying activity.

Whereas, the TEACHER requires the READER to select a determined number of BOOKS to be completed by the predetermined deadlines.

Whereas, the READER will choose the number of BOOKS to complete to the best of the READER’s ability on or before the predetermined deadlines.

Furthermore, the READER also agrees to have an outside reading book in class every day in order to use as much allowed class time to complete the number of books agreed upon.

Furthermore, the READER will be required to turn in books on or before the deadlines the first of which is to be one school week before midterms and the second of which is to be one school week before the end of the quarter.

Furthermore, the TEACHER will provide class time every Friday in order for the READER to make presentations and have class time to read chosen BOOKS. However, the TEACHER does not accept responsibility if READER procrastinates and does not allow himself/herself adequate time to make a presentation or complete a BOOK.

Therefore, it is agreed by and between the TEACHER and READER that upon completion of the determined number of BOOKS, the READER shall receive the determined grade. Reading Counts quizzes must be completed first, followed by the bookmark, and then the book project and presentation.

The READER must circle his/her choice in ink.

                                     4 BOOKS and satisfactorily completed projects will receive an A

                                     3 BOOKS and satisfactorily completed projects will receive a B

                                     2 BOOKS and satisfactorily completed projects will receive a C

                                      Fewer than 2 BOOKS will result in a phone call home explaining the lack of effort and the low grade.
