John Deere Gator UTV - We are proud to announce that the Les Hardin family purchased a John Deere Gator UTV for the Activities Department this fall. The Activities Department was contacted by the family last August about the donation. The UTV was purchased and delivered at the end of September and was put to use during the last few weeks of the fall season. The Hardin family requested the vehicle to be utilized in as many ways as possible, so they decided to include the following options: windshield, roof, and hydraulic snow blade. Over the winter, the Department will dress up the gator in school colors. We will partner with Jon and Chuck Melloway to paint the gator purple, apply the school logo decals, and attach the commemorative donor signage.

Laminator & film: Hallsville PTO purchased a laminator and film for the Intermediate school this year. After the previous laminator quit working, the Primary and Intermediate buildings were sharing a laminator. Many thanks to the Hallsville PTO for the purchase as it saves us time and money! Our supplies are able to be shared and preserved, which extends the amount of time we can use them.

As students read books, they fill out a book brag tag and turn it into the library. In November, we will have a drawing to give away the back. The Masons have donated 4 bikes each year for the past four years.

Technology Donation: Over the summer, the Hallsville R-IV School District received a generous donation of technology from an anonymous source. We were gifted 25 Hewlett-Packard laptops and 17 desktop computers along with many accessories to complete workstations. Our technology department took in the donated items and spent time this summer getting them ready for our classrooms and libraries. The intermediate school, middle school, and high school media centers have used some of the laptops to replace the older and out-of-date models that have been used on projector carts in classrooms.

This donation will benefit a wide range of teachers that can sign up to borrow the new equipment to take back for their classroom use. Mrs. O'Day's new classroom was outfitted with donated laptops for her students to use in the classroom everyday. Several of the desktops computers were able to upgrade teacher computer workstations in the primary classrooms and to be used as servers in our technology department.

This was a generous and needed donation that we are extremely thankful to receive. Technology has a tendency to quickly become out-of-date or obsolete in our society today, and this is a large financial burden for schools to keep up with. Donations of high quality technology that help us upgrade our oldest computers in the district is a relief to our replacement cycle which allows us to stretch our technology budget even further.

Hallsville Optimist Club: On behalf of the Hallsville Optimist Club, President Danny Hardin attended the May Board of Education meeting and presented each building with a $500 check for supplies. Thank you, Optimists, for your kind doantion!

  • Primary: The primary school put the $500 towards the purchase of Developmental Reading Assessments (DRAs), which were also supplemented with funds from Box Tops. This test gives the school district a baseline reading score for our students and is a certified assessment from Pearson Education.
  • Intermediate: There is now one new bench out front and one bench on the playground at Hallsville Intermediate school. We are using these as "buddy benches," which is a friendship bench for students. These areas foster friendships and eliminate loneliness. The intermediate still has some funds available that they will use for remaining supplies this year.
  • Middle School: Teachers in the middle school had the funds distributed to purchase individual supplies for their classroom needs.
  • High School: The English department in the high school was able to order enough books to complete classroom sets for two board-approved curriculum novels. In addition, the team is excited to have the opportunity to purchase an teach an American Play entitled, "12 Angry Men."
