Leadership Team Planning Meeting Report
September 5, 2006

Jennifer Blumer opened the meeting with introductions. She explained the current status of PTO leadership, the organization’s recent shift from being a PTA to a PTO, read the mission statement of the organization and the need for revisions to the by-laws to reflect these changes. Kami Wimer, Jennifer Blumer and Suzanne Stillwell will work on the by-law changes.
Upcoming events (Carnival, Open House and Movie night, Mud Room) were discussed.
- Carnival: Much of this discussion centered on how to increase attendance by students, teachers and community members. Several ideas mentioned were to hold the event on a Friday evening instead of Saturday, to schedule the event in the spring toward the end of the school year, to have different grades plan and participate in parts of the carnival and to develop new activities at the carnival. In the end it was decided that for this year we would try to hold the event as scheduled on November 11, 2006 and explore options for hold this at another time of the year for next year. Kami Wimer and Deanna Rowland volunteered to co-chair this event with Amy Bartlett.
- Open House: is scheduled for September 18 th beginning at 6:30pm with a brief PTO meeting. At this meeting the leadership team will be introduced, mission statement read, budget presented and if completed, by-laws read. The Wednesday Early –Out program will be explained. Teachers will be introduced and then the open house will begin.
- We talked about having tables for selling merchandise, (there was discussion regarding the getting football and volleyball merchandise –Deanna Rowland will follow-up with Penny Fadler, Coach Morris and Coach Strodtman).
- There will be a table for PTO membership and there was talk about a table for question and answers about the Wednesday early out program.
- Movie Night: Scheduled for October 16, 2006 Laura Kabrick will chair with Chris Sutter. Plan to show the same movie as last year, provide an intermission and resume with another half-hour movie (title not chosen as of yet). Suzanne will check on popcorn machine.
- Mud Room Night: not scheduled yet. Deanna Rowland will contact Penny Fadler, who was in the process or arranging this event to see where we are. NOTE: Since this meeting, the Mud Room Night has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 8 from 6-8 pm.
We then discussed recruiting grade representatives; a parent and teacher from each grade (pre-school through 8 th grade) to serve on the leadership team. Suzanne Stillwell was able to get representatives for most of the grades, however, there are a few slots open. She will continue to fill these.

After proposing several ideas and discussion, it was proposed that during the last week of September we have a special breakfast, where students can invite their grandparents to join them for biscuits and gravy. Joni Crossgrove and Suzanne Stillwell will explore this. NOTE: Since this meeting, this event has been scheduled. See PTO Events for details.
The meeting was adjourned a little after 9 pm.
We are scheduled to meet again on October 4 at 7:00 pm in the Elementary Library. These are open meetings, so anyone who would like to get more involved in PTO is welcome to attend. At this meeting, we plan to work on finalizing plans for the October 16 Movie Night, the Nov. 8 Mud Room, and the Nov. 11 Carnival.
