Hallsville PTO August 2007 Newsletter
Our mission is to enhance the cooperation between home and school to benefit the education of children and youth.

PTO needs you!
PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO Executive Committee encourages parents, teachers, and students of all ages to participate in committees and activities. A very easy way to get involved is to volunteer to be a room parent helper! To purchase a membership for the year and to volunteer, please complete and return the attached membership application along with $5.00 in dues to any of the school offices. Members whose applications are received before October 1, 2007 will receive a free school calendar booklet!

PTO Sponsored Activities & Projects

Besides pre-K through high school teacher requests and budget items, PTO was a major sponsor of the current elementary playground equipment and grounds renovation and we will be supporting needs as they arise with the primary school. We sponsor student activities including skating parties for elementary and middle school, dances/parties for the middle school, classroom holiday parties in the elementary and family activities such as Gravy with Grandparents, Create-a-gift night and the Carnival /Fall Festival.

PTO Fall Fund Raiser
Sales:  August 23-September 6
Pick-up date: October 25
Middle School, Elementary and Primary students will be given fundraiser packets. The purpose of this sale is to raise funds that will be used for teacher and district requests and for student activities sponsored by PTO throughout this school year. Again this year, be sure to collect money as you take the orders and turn in both orders and money on September 6th. For more information, please watch for the packet to come home or contact any PTO Executive Committee member.

PTO Sponsors Gravy with Grandparents In honor of Grandparent’s Day, your child’s grandparents are invited to have breakfast with them at the school. The schedule is as follows:

Sept. 4:   2nd Grade Sept. 11:   Pre-K
Sept. 5:   3rd Grade Sept. 12:  Kindergarten
Sept. 6:   4th Grade Sept. 13:  1st Grade

Candy Grams

Throughout the year, PTO will have several candy grams events in the Primary, Elementary and Middle schools. For 25 cents, students can send a message with candy or other small token attached to a teacher or classmate.  It's fun and a great way for students to build friendships and show appreciation to their teachers and staff.  Notice of these events will be sent home with our student.

Spirit Merchandise Available
PTO offers t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts and window clings with Hallsville district logos and school colors. We will take orders only once this semester so shop now if planning for holiday gifts! See the attached order form for prices or go to our PTO website linked from the Parent Resources page at http://www.hallsville.org/parents/. The website includes some merchandise that we have in stock, but will not re-order once it is sold.

Save the Box Tops for Education logos
This program has been in place in our school for several years.  Sherri Briedwell, 4th grade teacher is our coordinator.  To support and boost participation in the program, PTO will be sponsoring monthly competitions between classes and buildings. Last year our school earned $1100.00!!! So save those box tops!! Look for more details in the attached flyer and go to www.boxtops4education.com for other ways you can support our school through this program.
