Classroom Computer and Internet Usage Policies

The Internet is becoming an important tool in education. As we develop school web sites, it is necessary to establish policies which protect the privacy and clarify the rights of students and parents. Here are some of my current classroom policies.

Pictures of Students on the Web

1. Students must have a District Permission to Photograph document on file before their picture can be used on the Web.
2. Pictures of students will be for educational, informational purposes showing group activities or special projects.
3. When student names are used in text passages on the Web, only first names will be displayed.

Appropriate Computer Use

1. Classroom computers are to be used for learning purposes only.
2. Students must be supervised at all times when using the school's computers.
3. Students will never type in a url. Approved sites will always be linked.
4. When using the Internet, stay on recommended site. If not sure, ask before clicking. Get help from the teacher.

I request that each of my students and their parents/guardians read and sign a statement indicating their understanding of the above guidelines. In this way I gain their permission and they gain my assurance of relevant, safe and appropriate use of technology in our classroom.
