Community in Action

Primary music teacher Chelsea Otten shared this incredible video to show how her new music education curriculum and tools, funded by HPSF in the spring, are benefiting Hallsville Primary students already this new school year! Take a look at the video! HPSF is grateful for the support of our community, providing the funds that make these grants possible. Thank you, Hallsville community, and thank you, Mrs. Otten, for all you do for our schools.

Strubel Awarded Funding for “Kindles for Kids!”

HPSF is pleased to announce full funding for 2nd Grade Teacher Kelsey Strubel’s “Kindles for Kids” grant proposal! Mrs. Strubel wrote passionately about using technology in the classroom, and the curriculum modules supported by the Kindles in her class room. Congratulations, Mrs. Strubel! Thank you for all you do for our kids and our district!

Accepting Applications (Again)!

The Hallsville Public School Foundation is excited to announce that we will award ANOTHER $250 grant to be used for projects during the 2019-2020 school year! After successfully surprising our first recipient, Mrs. Chelsea Otten, we want to make one more award before the end of the year.  Any certified staff within the Hallsville School District may apply, either as an individual or as part of a collaborative team. The goal of these grants is to provide additional resources that are not currently available through regular budgetary funding through the district and support the district’s vision of “Improving lives through learning.”

Applications are due by 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2019 to Central Office, Attn: Hallsville Public School Foundation. Each grant application must not exceed a total project goal of $250. Applications, instructions and FAQ can be found using the “Apply for Funds” link above. The Hallsville Public School Foundation Board of Directors will determine which grant will be funded using a scoring system. If you still have questions after reviewing the application and FAQ document attached, please email info@hallsvillefoundation.org.

We look forward to awarding another teacher grant soon! Good luck, and thank you for all you do for our students!

Otten Receives First Ever HPSF Grant

Music Teacher Chelsea Otten is the first recipient of HPSF Funding for her project Parachutes, Ribbons and Scarves, Oh My! She applied for the funds earlier in April and her proposal was reviewed and fully funded by HPSF.

Mrs. Otten is the Music Educator for Hallsville’s Primary and Intermediate Schools. The new curriculum helps students engage with classical music through movement and the use of props. She will use the new program with students in the Primary School, currently K-1, but soon to include 2nd grade as well.

In her proposal, Mrs. Otten said “all children engage in learning at a higher level through movement and group play. My goal with this grant is to introduce some new resources and activities to the Primary music room to further engage and motivate our youngest Hallsville Indians in music class.”

Congratulations, Mrs. Otten, and thank you for all you do for our kids and our schools. We appreciate you!

Update from the Foundation

We hope that you and your family are enjoying 2019 so far! Winter sports are in full-swing and second semester is underway for our 1,400 students.   In August 2018, we welcomed the kindergarten Class of 2031 with 117 students, and in May we will celebrate the senior Class of 2019 and their 76 graduates.

As you know, the Hallsville Public School Foundation was founded in 2018 by members of the Hallsville community who wanted to enhance educational opportunities for students in the Hallsville School District through scholarships and grants. Last fall, the foundation applied for 501 (c)(3) non-profit status and we hope to have exciting news to share with you about that soon. We also have kicked off our first campaign with district alumni, talking to them about ways to support students and staff in the district.

The Foundation exists to provide opportunities for students and staff that might not be met through regular budgetary funding.  These opportunities include student scholarships for supplemental educational experiences; school district equipment, facilities, and programs; and professional and educational development for faculty and staff.  The foundation hopes to raise funds to support this mission by bringing together community resources, financial support and volunteers.

We are looking forward to a great 2019, and welcome your support to the Hallsville Public School Foundation.  Our goal for the first quarter is to raise $5,000 through general donations, in addition to seeking yearly independent and corporate sponsors.  The Foundation also currently manages estate gifts and scholarships and is prepared to assist with estate and planned giving for those alumni and community members who wish to leave a legacy gift.

Please join us in celebrating the start of a great organization supporting the students of Hallsville!  Visit www.hallsvillefoundation.org or find us on Facebook @HallsvilleFoundation to learn more about the Hallsville Public School Foundation, and please consider supporting the students of Hallsville.
