Early Childhood Programs

The Hallsville School District offers multiple Early Childhood Programs to enhance the development of children ages birth through age 5. We are committed to creating a safe, caring, engaging classroom environment where your children learn at developmentally appropriate levels. We offer Parents As Teachers, a free and voluntary program offered to all district families with prenatal to pre-kindergarten age children. In addition, we have two preschool programs, a full-day need-based preschool and an early childhood special education program.

Parents As Teachers Parents As Teachers (PAT) is a voluntary program that provides parents with the information, support, skills, and encouragement they need to help their children develop optimally during those first few years of life and to help them become their child’s most influential teacher.  It is offered free to all district families with prenatal to pre-kindergarten age children. Our services are designed to help you learn more about parenting and your child’s development, assist you in coping with the challenges of family life, and identify and address any potential delays with your child.  Our PAT program offers personal home visits, group connections, developmental screenings, and connections to community resources. Please contact Karen Smith at (573) 696-5512, Ext. 6310 or at [email protected] or complete the Hallsville Parents As Teachers Interest Form if you would like to participate in the program.

Full-Day Preschool The full-day preschool program is designed to serve children at least 4 by July 31 and will be entering kindergarten within the following year. Children must qualify for the program based on a screening and evaluation process as well as meeting Free & Reduced Lunch Guidelines.  The program has a limited enrollment of 15 students, and transportation is not provided for students. During the day, students will receive a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum that aligns with Missouri Early Learning Standards.
Please complete the Hallsville Early Childhood Interest Form to apply for the full-day or early childhood special education program. Completing this form alerts the Hallsville School District of your interest in our Early Childhood Programs. Someone will be in contact with you in the next 7-10 days to schedule a screening for your child.

Eligibility Criteria

Early Childhood Special Education

The Early Childhood Special Education Program is a federal program designed to serve children ages 3-5 with significant developmental delays in at least one of the following areas: health, motor (fine and/or gross), social/emotional/behavioral, communication (speech and/or language), cognitive, and adaptive. Children must qualify for the program based on a screening and evaluation process. If the criteria are met, the team will place the child into the special education program and write an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The special education services of the Hallsville Early Childhood Special Education Program include classroom teachers, speech and language therapists, occupational and physical therapists, and teacher assistants.  Consultant services for hearing-impaired and visually impaired students are also available.

Children who qualify for the program are provided with a hands-on, developmentally appropriate play-based preschool curriculum focusing on individual needs. There are two sessions; morning (3-4 year olds) and afternoon (students entering kindergarten the following school year). The morning session meets from 8:05-11:00 a.m. The afternoon session meets from 12:40-3:35 p.m. with all children attending daily, Tuesday through Friday.
