School board filing closes with five candidates

January 18 - At this time, our district anticipates two propositions on the April 3 ballot.

Proposition One: School Board Candidates

Candidate filing to fill two seats on the Board of Education closed on Tuesday. Each seat carries a three-year term. The following candidates filed in advance of the deadline, and their names will appear on the ballot in the following order:

  • Jessica Hassler (incumbent)
  • David Athon (incumbent)
  • Mike Hamilton
  • Tonya Schleeter
  • Paul Scheetz

Potential Proposition 2: Bond Issue

At the upcoming Board of Education meeting on Monday, January 22, it will be decided if the district will pursue a bond issue for construction at the Primary School and other purposes. The district’s bonding agent has indicated that Hallsville R-IV can comfortably bond up to $8 million with no tax rate increase. As of now, district administration and the Board are developing draft ballot language for such a proposition. More details are yet to come and will be available on the website and Facebook page in the coming months. The latest information and a recap from the final board work session can be viewed here.
