Parents as Teachers

Parents As Teachers Program

As a parent, you are your child’s first, and most important, teacher, and your home is your child’s first classroom.  Your baby begins learning at birth, and brain growth and development happen more rapidly during the first 5 years of life than at any other time.  Their growth and learning during these crucial early years is critical, and P.A.T. can help you lay a strong foundation for your child’s future success in school and in life.

Parents As Teachers is a voluntary program that provides parents with the information, support, skills, and encouragement they need to help their children develop optimally during those first few years of life, and to help them become their child’s most influential teacher.  It is offered free to all district families with prenatal to pre-kindergarten age children. Our services are designed to help you learn more about parenting and your child’ s development, assist you in coping with the challenges of family life, and identify and address any potential delays with your child.  Together, we will focus on ways to help your child learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential. Our P.A.T. program offers personal home visits, group connections, developmental screenings and connections to community resources.

Please contact Karen Smith at (573)696-5512, Ext. 6310 or at [email protected]  if you would like to participate in the program.
