Community Flu Clinic text with hands holding a heart

Due to recent funding changes, Columbia/Boone County Public Health & Human Services will not be hosting free student flu clinics at school this year. Families are encouraged to attend the Community Flu Clinic on Monday, October 21, from 3:30–6:30 p.m. at the Hallsville Community Center. They ask that you bring your insurance cards with you.

The school program, which began in 2009, has provided free flu shots to students through various grants and community funding. They’re exploring new funding opportunities and hope to bring the school clinics back in the future.

Proposition 2, Phase 2 of Building Our Tribe with H logo

Proposition 2 passed in April 2025 with 75% voter approval. However, the county clerk published the required newspaper notices a week too early, so the State Auditor could not certify the bond.

On Tuesday, November 4, voters residing within the Hallsville School District will be asked to vote again on Proposition 2, a no tax-rate increase bond.  The $6.5 million generated through bond sales will fund the following:

  • Parking & Traffic Flow Improvements: Expanding parking and improving traffic flow on the main campus to accommodate student and guest parking.
  • New Classrooms at Hallsville Primary School: Addressing the growing student enrollment.
  • Relocated Baseball Field & Multipurpose Field: Constructing a new baseball field and adding an artificial surface multipurpose field.
  • Security Upgrades: Installing additional security doors at main entrances in the intermediate, middle, and high school.
  • Refinancing Lease Obligations: Paying off a lease-purchase agreement to reduce future financial commitments.

HHS Fall Musical with title Seven Brides for Seven Brothers musical photo
Seven boys dressed in red and one girl sitting

Hallsville High School proudly presents Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, the classic frontier musical bursting with laughter, romance, and high-energy dance numbers!

Set in the rugged Oregon wilderness of 1850, the story follows the bold and boisterous Adam Pontipee and his six rowdy brothers—mountain men who discover they might just need a woman’s touch to turn their wild lives around. When Adam brings home his spirited new wife, Milly, she sets out to transform the uncivilized bunch into proper gentlemen. But when love (and a little mischief) enters the mix, chaos and comedy ensue in the most heartwarming way!

Packed with lively songs, impressive choreography, and plenty of old-fashioned charm, this crowd-pleasing musical celebrates love, laughter, and the adventure of taming the wild frontier. Get ready for a rip-roarin', toe-tappin' good time!

Four day school week, vote November 4 text with H logo

On November 4, 2025, residents of the Hallsville School District will be asked to decide whether the district can continue on a four-day school week. This vote is required under a new state law, Section 171.028 RSMo, passed as part of Senate Bill 727. The ballot language will read:

"Shall the school board of Hallsville R-IV School District adopt the provisions of Section 171.028, RSMo, establishing a four-day school week for the next ten years in the district of Hallsville?"

☐ YES                  ☐ NO

A 'yes' vote allows the Hallsville School District to continue operating on a four-day school week, pending approval by the Board of Education. The 2026-2027 district calendar, approved by the Board of Education in September 2025, would be allowed.

A “no” vote means the Hallsville School District would be required by state law to return to a five-day school week with at least 169 instructional days each year.

Since transitioning to a four-day week, Hallsville students have continued to meet high academic standards, and instructional hours have remained consistent with the traditional five-day calendar. Academic achievement scores have remained highly competitive, showing no decline since the transition. The four-day schedule supports the district’s goal of recruiting and retaining exceptional teachers, providing time to collaborate and plan effectively, and helping maintain the level of high-quality instruction families have come to expect from Hallsville Schools.

Why Hallsville Must Vote on the Four-Day?

Under Section 171.028 RSMo, any district that lies partly in a city with more than 30,000 residents must hold a public vote to continue a four-day school week. Because less than 0.05% of Hallsville’s boundaries (about 235 acres) fall within the City of Columbia, Hallsville is required to place this question on the November 4 ballot.

Neighboring districts, such as Sturgeon, Harrisburg, and Southern Boone (which is currently exploring a four-day school week), will not have to hold a vote and will continue to decide their calendars locally. This is because no part of their school district boundaries fall within the City of Columbia.
